McMaster Manufacturing Research Institute (MMRI) is offering a new program to support new Canadians who were trained internationally and want to upskill and find a job in the Canadian Aerospace or Manufacturing Sectors.
This program will help participants:
- Understand how to navigate the Canadian workplace, operations management fundamentals, boost leadership capabilities and understand the skills leaders of the future will need
- Gain a strong foundation in CNC machining, shop safety, quality inspection, and multi-axis awareness, and an understanding of not just what to do but why it matters in a production environment
- Understand the modern hiring landscape and how to get noticed in the age of AI, with actionable steps to improve your resume, perform well in interviews, and create a plan to get hired
- Get help finding a job, including contacting companies on your behalf, interview practice, and more
The government of Ontario is invested in improving the future of new Canadians, and the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development is generously funding this project.
Thanks to their support, program applicants deemed eligible will be able to access all services for free.
Industry Operations Fundamentals Course
This is a two day micro-credential course offered jointly between McMaster University and The Strong Link (TSL).
This course will include workplace culture and communication training based on the requirements and standards in the sector to enable effective employment and integration into the Ontario workforce.
Participants will also gain an effective understanding of Industry 4.0 operations, operations management fundamentals, critical leadership skills, and understand the attributes employees need to have to become effective future leaders in industry.

Hands-on Training in Machine Operation
This 3-day intensive training program delivered by Letar Inc., a company with decades of experience of expertise. It is designed to provide new and developing machine operators with a strong foundation in CNC machining, shop safety, quality inspection, and multi-axis awareness. The course blends classroom instruction with hands-on shop exposure to ensure participants understand not just what to do, but why it matters in a production environment.
By the end of the program, participants will be able to safely interact with CNC machines, understand setup fundamentals, perform basic inspection tasks, and support production operations across 3-axis, 4-axis, and introductory 5-axis environments.
Employment Help and Career Guidance
Once training and certification is complete, participants will have access to employment assistance through a team of professionals with years of experience finding placements for people.
Services will include CV review and rewriting to highlight participants’ past achievements and new skills, job opportunity identification, interview coaching, and contacting employers to forward resumes of qualified candidates.
Participants will also get access to the Career Accelerator, a short masterclass designed for one outcome: helping job seekers land their next role in the age of AI hiring.
This course will cover the modern hiding landscape, how to optimize and structure your resume and cover letter for AI, important skills to master interviewing, and actionable steps to make finding your next job easier.
Access to Certification through OACETT
The Ontario Association of Engineering Technicians and Technologists is also partnering with MMRI on this project, to provide access to valuable certification and their extensive network of members to qualified participants.
Participants who meet the requirements for OACETT’s C. Tech. certification at any point during the program will be able to write the exam and get their first year of membership for free.

If you'd like to participate in this program, there are some requirements. You must:
- Be at least 18 years old
- Live in Ontario
- Have an English level equivalent to Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 6, or higher
You need to be one of the following:
- Permanent resident
- Naturalized Canadian citizen
- Have a 900-series Social Insurance Number (SIN), an open work permit, and be either a refugee claimant, or under Emergency Travel measures started by the federal government like the Canada-Ukraine Authorization for Emergency Travel measure
- Have a temporary work permit and confirmaton from Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) that you meet the eligibility requirements for permanent residence
You are not eligible if you:
- Have completed post-secondary education in Canada
- Are an international student
- Are a temporary foreign worker (unless you've received confirmation from IRCC that you meet the eligibility criteria for permanent residence)
- Are participating in full-time education or training
- Are participating in any other government-funded training, unless it's non-occupational programs like EO Literacy and Basic Skills or Language Training
Commitment is critical, as places are limited. Participants are expected to commit to having professional behaviour, attending on-time and participating actively in both the online and in-person training. This program will require participants to dedicate at least two weeks full-time for the training.
